Hi, there—and welcome to my first PLANTCRAFT Mini!
Between regular missives featuring conversations on plants that are inspiring the folks inspiring me, I’m planning on sending these mini dispatches—a cutting, if you will—as a way of checking in: providing updates on what’s happening in the PLANTCRAFT universe, sharing details on projects I’m working on beyond this newsletter, getting feedback from you all on what you’d like to see from the newsletter moving forward. Perhaps future minis will include additional offerings as PLANTCRAFT continues to evolve.

💫 PLANTCRAFT Logo Update
If you haven’t already noticed, the official PLANTCRAFT logo has been updated with an animated version thanks to the genius of my dear friend and collaborator Sela (keep up with their work here)!
In our conversations about the creative direction for the OG logo, I reiterated that I wanted a visual that spoke to one of this newsletter’s core aims: to wrest plants away from the overlooked backdrop of human life by appreciating how wondrous and often surreal botanical beings are. As a longtime lover of independent publications, I also wanted Sela to develop a logo that would feel at home in any zine. Thanks again, Sela, for bringing your gorgeous rendering to life!
🌿 FREE PLANTCRAFT Stickers
Since starting this newsletter, I’ve known that I’ve wanted to offer readers a series of PLANTCRAFT goodies. As a big-time merch girlie who loves the feeling of forging community with strangers through recognizing a beloved band’s hoodie or a tote from that go-to coffee shop, I’m excited to gift a little something special to all of you: PLANTCRAFT stickers!
Printed using soy-based ink and made with uncoated paper and non-toxic adhesive, I’m giving away compostable PLANTCRAFT stickers for FREE for as long as supplies last. If you’re interested, simply fill out this form. I can’t wait to see where these stickers end up (email me photos at amiriofreeman@gmail.com)!
🌳 A Tree, — A Reader on Arboreal Kinship
A few months ago, I received an invitation to submit a piece for A Tree,—a reader edited by researcher Marjolein van der Loo in partnership with Onomatopee that aims to “nurture and encourage dialogues and to share inspiration on exercising arboreal kinship by taking the time to think about trees differently through imagination, art, music, storytelling, poetry, and images.”
The book is a gorgeous offering jam-packed with generative and touching artifacts about one of our oldest Earth elders. Seeing my PLANTCRAFT missive with archivist, book curator, and independent researcher Oscar Salguero cited in the introduction was particularly sweet!
You can read my piece, “Anthropocene Therolinguistics: On Quaking Aspens and the Emergence of a New Therolinguistic Movement,” alongside the other beautiful works by ordering the reader online today. Thanks again, Marjolein, for the invitation to contribute!
🫂 An Encyclopedia of Radical Helping
As continued global violence serrates the edges of everyday life, I’m moved by efforts worldwide to enact and document the work of change, including Thick Press’ An Encyclopedia of Radical Helping.
An expansion and subversion of a more traditional encyclopedia, the text invites readers to “wander through a collection of interconnected entries on helping and healing by over 200 contributors from the worlds of social work and family therapy; art and design; body work; organizing; and more.” Much love to Erin Segal, one of the book’s editors, for the invitation to submit a piece on food sovereignty that’s an ode to June Jordan’s poem “Focus in Real Time.”
Pre-order An Encyclopedia today—and follow Thick Press on Instagram to see if you can catch An Encyclopedia event near you.
